Colonna will be received here by her Brazilian peer, Mauro Vieira, and according to diplomatic circles, the meeting between the two diplomats is considered the first step to organize French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Brazil.
The sources assure that Minister Colonna, who will leave Brasilia on Thursday, will also meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to reestablish bilateral relations, severed by a series of incidents during the Government of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
On January 26, Lula spoke over the phone with Macron, to whom he ratified his invitation to visit to Brazil in order to boost joint work on climate change.
During the conversation, the two statesmen discussed the environment, bilateral relations and the agreement between Mercosur and the EU.
For his part, Macron reiterated the invitation for Brazil to participate in the One Forest Summit, which France and Gabon will host in Libreville on March 1 and 2.
The forum will seek to promote the collective ambition to preserve and sustainably manage tropical forests, which provide an invaluable service to local populations and humanity by offering numerous resources.
