Everything for my country, solidarity from a Cuban woman in Denmark

Copenhagen, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Everything for my country and my people, that is how a Cuban resident in Denmark, Maria de los Angeles Alarcon, defines her motivations today to promote a project to help the Caribbean island with medical equipment and supplies.

She does not belong to any association, nor does she consider it necessary to give her initiative a name, the only thing that matters, she assures, is to take advantage of every second available to collect, together with her husband, donations from Danish medical institutions, which she then sends to Cuba through solidarity members in Denmark and Sweden.

I have accumulated many items due to changes in inventory and donations, which during the Covid-19 pandemic I could not send to Cuba, but in 2021 we organized a first load for the Clinical Surgical Hospital in the eastern province of Holguin, she told Prensa Latina.

According to the health worker, she had the opportunity to deliver the aid, consisting mainly of resources from the surgical area in Cuba, together with the members of the Swedish solidarity that materialized the shipment.

Last year we dispatched a second cargo, also with support from Danish and Swedish friends who help Cuba, in this case for institutions in Holguin and in my native Las Tunas, with means such as two ultrasound teams, one for anesthesia, a camera for endoscopy, computers and surgical material, among others, she explained.

Alarcon explained that this second donation consisted of medical supplies for Pinar del Rio, to palliate the damage caused by Hurricane Ian in western Cuba in September 2022.

We are already working on a third shipment, which will leave Denmark through local solidarity groups, which are preparing a container, she highlighted.

In her house, the Cuban resident in Denmark has accumulated large amounts of much-needed medical resources for her homeland.

I just want to help my people, and I do what I have to do for my country to support it, she insisted.

For Alarcon, love for the country is the great motivation, but she also recognizes that she finds encouragement when she sees the commitment and solidarity of people who were not born in Cuba.
