Italy: first European country to send humanitarian aid to Syria (+Photos)

Damascus, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) The head of the Syrian Red Crescent Organization (SRCS), Khaled Habbouti, affirmed that Italy is the first European country to send aid to support the Syrians affected by the earthquake.

The aid arrived in two planes that landed at Beirut airport in neighboring Lebanon and was then transferred to Syria, and includes four ambulances and 30 tons of medical and rescue supplies, Habbouti said.

He made it clear, that an Italian team of four orthopaedic doctors also arrived to support the Syrian medical cadre in treating the wounded.

According to medias reports, two other planes from Italy landed at the Lebanese capital’s airport and their cargo will arrive in Syria in the coming hours.

We appreciate the support of the Italian government and call on all European countries and the United States to send aid, the head of the RSFSM said .

In turn,Tamam Yousef, the head of the doctors who arrived along with the Italian aid told the press that Rome’s assistance aims to support the efforts of the MLRS to provide relief to those affected by the catastrophic phenomenon.

Our medical team will visit all provinces, and their first destination will be Latakia, he said.

So far, around 70 planes from some twenty countries have arrived with aid supplies in Syria, a nation that is facing a catastrophic situation due to 12 years of war and a strong earthquake that left the country with at least five thousand dead and a great devastation.
