Cuba thanks Caricom for its stance against US blockade

Havana, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez today reiterated Cuba's gratitude to the heads of governments of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) for their continued rejection of the US blockade against this nation.

Our sincere gratitude for their support and renewed call for the lifting of the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade against the people and government of Cuba, the top Cuban diplomat wrote on Twitter.

The 44th conference of Caricom heads of government, held in Nassau, Bahamas, from 15th to 17th, had among its main topics the crisis in Haiti.

Participants agreed on building international alliances in support of efforts to restore peace and stability to this Caribbean country as essential mechanisms to achieve free, fair and credible elections.

They also discussed aspects of food and energy security and climate and health financing, among other issues.

Founded in 1973 in Trinidad and Tobago and comprising 15 member states and five associate members, Caricom promotes economic and commercial union, foreign policy coordination and cooperation in various areas of common interest.
