Chilean crime rate boosts the security industry

Santiago de Chile, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) The increase in crimes of high social impact in Chile today causes an increase in the demand for security services and technologies in businesses, companies, institutions, and even for ordinary people.

A report by the Ministry of the Interior revealed that in 2022 criminal acts grew by almost 50 percent compared to the previous year, with particular incidence in robberies on persons, homes, vehicles and assaults with intimidation.

In terms of homicides, there was an increase from 695 to 934, and there was also an increase in deaths caused by gunshots.

An unprecedented event occurred recently when a group of unknown assailants robbed a navy warehouse and stole weapons and ammunition.

The insecure environment has a direct impact on the market for certain services, such as escorts or escorts for certain procedures, which can range from the purchase of a car or the withdrawal of large sums of money from a bank.

Cesar Bustos, corporate manager of AS Group Chile, told the press that there was a 30 percent increase in requests, despite the country’s complex economic situation.

We have had to analyze in greater depth the mode of operation of the new criminal actors,” said Bustos, referring to modalities that did not exist just two years ago.

Former Undersecretary of Security Neftaly Carabantes declared that the sale of surveillance cameras and other similar technologies increased by 150 percent, even in informal commerce.

The rise in crime mainly affects the following regions: the Metropolitan Region, where the capital is located, and Valparaíso, and in the north, Arica y Parinacota, Tarapacá, Antofagasta and Atacama.

According to the sub-directorate of Crime Prevention, the southern regions of Aysén and Magallanes had the fewest police cases in 2022.
