In an official statement, circulated on social networks, the institution called on donor countries, UN agencies, humanitarian organizations and associations of solidarity movements, to provide urgent asistance to the Sahrawi refugees, who are facing a delicate situation.
The Red Crescent expresses its ‘deep concerns at the growing vulnerability of the situation, the increase in malnutrition and anemia among children and women, particularly children under five years of age, a population of which more than a third suffers from chronic diseases’.
The camps suffered in recent days the impact of heavy storms and torrential rains that left serious damages, particularly in schools, hospitals and centers for the disabled, as detailed in the text of the organization.
The heavy rains that occurred in the Saharawi refugee camps during the past week caused significant material losses in homes, as well as in some institutions… especially the rains that were accompanied by strong gusts of wind and sandstorms, which increased the damage to the fragile infrastructures’, added the Saharawi Red Crescent in its statement.
