Decree in Uruguay is considered a barrier to immigration

migracion-uruguay-500x334
Montevideo, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) The recent decree requiring foreigners entering Uruguay to have health insurance is seen here today as a barrier to immigration.

On his Twitter account, Lawyer Juan Ceretta noted that the measure, adopted last week, is ‘an important barrier for the migrant population.

He wrote that with the derogation of all previous regulations ‘the exceptions established in Dec 104/20, which in paragraph g) contemplated refugees and in paragraph h) migrants for family reunification, among others, are no longer in effect.’

The decree states that ‘foreigners intending to enter the country by air, sea or land means, regardless of their cause of entry, must have health insurance or health coverage.’

The document adds: ‘Repeal all sanitary provisions that establish requirements for entry into the country, and that have been issued within the framework or as a consequence of the national sanitary emergency.’

The government claims that medical care for migrants caused losses for medical care, which is provided by the State Health Services Administration (ASSE).
