Syria reports 19 aftershocks

Damascus, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian National Earthquake Center reported on Friday that its monitoring stations have recorded 19 aftershocks during the last few hours.

The institution explained that the aftershocks were registered from 08:00 to 16:45 hours, local time, are of a weak magnitude and oscillate between 3.5 and 4.1 degrees in the Richter open scale.

Syria entered a new transitory seismic phase where mild aftershocks will continue, he noted.

Center Director Raed Ahmed reported that on Thursday, the stations monitored 80 aftershocks of weak intensity, ranging 2.5-4.5 degrees on the Richter scale.

Early on Monday, February 6, two earthquakes with a a magnitude over 7.0 shook Türkiye and Syria, leaving tens of thousands of deaths and injured and devastation.

More than 4,000 aftershocks have shaken the region and scientists say that this process could continue not just for days, but for months or even years.
