People demand that US remove Cuba from Sponsors of Terrorism list

Washington, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) Emigrants and friends of Cuba are joining their voices on Sunday to demand the end of the United States blockade and the Caribbean island's removal from Washington's State Sponsors of Terrorism list during another world caravan.

According to the organizer of the Bridges of Love solidarity project, Carlos Lazo, the initiative will allow activists to take to the streets with messages in favor of an end to the economic war against Havana and in favor of rapprochement between the two peoples.

The demonstrations in the United States will take place in Miami, Seattle, New York, Minneapolis, in a claim that will also reach Montreal (in Canada) and other cities in the world.

The Cuban-American professor noted on his official Facebook account that “if there are no caravans or events in your city, be the event, be the caravan!”

In this regard, he invited people to be in public spaces with a flag and tweet: “Down with the blockade of Cuba! #BetterWithoutBlockade, #BrigesOfLove.”

“We demand that the cruel sanctions that punish and kill the Cuban people be lifted,” Lazo added.

The solidarity caravans take place on the last weekend of each month and, among other demands, they defend the family reunification program, remittances and trips to Cuba, which have been affected by the more than 240 measures imposed by US President Donald Trump (2017 -2021).

According to Cuba’s Foreign Ministry, these provisions mostly intensified the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington for more than six decades with the aim of suffocating the Caribbean island, hindering sources of income and impeding relations.

Cuba’s inclusion in the US State Sponsors of Terrorism list reinforces the deterrent and intimidating impact of the blockade, as well as the difficulties for the country to engage in international trade and carry out financial operations, the source pointed out.

Former US intelligence officials consider that Cuba’s permanence in that list is unjustified and claim that it is a fiction created to reinforce the logics of the blockade.

Several sectors within US society, international organizations and countries have demanded that the White House remove Cuba from that list, but the Joe Biden administration has not announced any steps in this regard so far.
