A press release published on the MINSAP website reports on the Minister’s conversation with the head and several members of the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Situations of Disasters and Serious Epidemics, which has been providing assistance in that country since February 10.

The video conference took place during a brief stopover of the Cuban delegation on its way to Azerbaijan, where it will participate in a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (Mnoal).

From various sites in the province of Kahramanmaraş we talked to some collaborators during their daily chores, ‘We are moving forward and putting the name of Cuba and Cuban medicine on a high note,’ as one of them said when we inquired about their working days with the population of Türkiye, Portal said.

Since their arrival in Türkiye, six days after the two devastating earthquakes, the Henry Reeve brigade has treated some 2,000 patients and carried out more than 3,000 nursing procedures.

They are specialists in General Comprehensive Medicine, surgeons, orthopedists, intensive care experts and many others who have not ceased to be with the Turkish people in every place where they have been needed.

It was very satisfactory to know about their experiences, the way in which they have been integrated into the medical teams and how they have been welcomed by the people, the Cuban Public Health Minister added.

Undoubtedly, these are days of great growth for them, especially for the young pediatrician Alemy Paret Rodriguez, who has become ‘a protagonist, a beacon and guide for us here,’ according to Dr. Juan Carlos Dupuy Nuñez, who is in charge of the brigade.

‘Thank you, on behalf of the people and our homeland, for the support and the great help that this brigade gives us,’ said one of the Turkish translators who accompanies the team, who shared the honor that it means for him to be with them, who are part of the ‘exemplary Cuban health system’.

To them, as well as to the people of Türkiye, Cuba’s gratitude for welcoming our collaborators and confirming that they will accompany them in every space where they can be useful and as long as they are needed, Portal said in the press release.
