Although there was general damage during this stage, the most affected were salaried women, 30,8% of whom were fired or suspended, compared to 18,8% of men, a study by the Central American University ‘José Simeón Cañas’ (UCA) revealed.
The information is commented by the newspaper La Prensa Grafica, which in its assessment assures that unemployment caused by the quarantine had a woman’s face, due to its high incidence in this sector of the population.
The study compiled data from 1,200 investigations carried out between May 15 and 24, 2021, and from 15 interviews with people who became seriously ill with coronavirus.
This study showed that 57,9% of the people said that before the pandemic they were working and four percent were also studying.
