Havana, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Tuesday lamented the death of prominent journalist Paquita Armas.

I join in the condolences for the death of Paquita Armas, a prestigious and indefatigable journalist and critic to whom we also owe valuable texts of diverse profiles, the Cuban president wrote on Twitter.

Paquita Armas died in Havana on Monday at the age of 73.

She was born in 1950 in the eastern province of Holguin, and graduated with a degree in journalism from Universidad de Oriente in 1977.

During her professional career, she specialized in cultural journalism, mainly in film, radio and television.

She was a member of the executive of the radio and television film association at the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) since 1994.

Paquita served as editor-in-chief of the Somos Jovenes and El Caiman Barbudo magazines, and directed the latter from 1984 to 1988.

Her articles on Marxism appear in El Caiman Barbudo, La Jiribilla, Juventud Rebelde, Bohemia, and in publications in other countries such as Spain, Mexico, and Ecuador.

In recent times, she published her works on La Jiribilla, Cubadebate and the Cuban television’s website.

Among the awards that she received were the Distinction for National Culture, the Caracol Award and the July 26 Award, granted by the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC).
