More than 45,000 people died in Türkiye due to earthquakes

Ankara, Mar 1 (Prensa Latina) The Turkish authorities stated on Wednesday that more than 45,000 people have died following the devastating 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes on the Richter scale that occurred on February 6, with epicenter in southern Kahramanmaras province.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) stated in a press release that 45,089 people were confirmed dead in the ten provinces affected by the quakes.

Around two million people were evacuated from the affected provinces, where about 6,400 members of the search and rescue teams would still be working.

The death toll is expected to increase as the search continues.

Authorities have set up an airlift to deliver materials and aid to the region.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that authorities would work on rebuilding the cities.
