Syrian president receives credentials from Cuban ambassador

Damascus, Mar 1 (Prensa Latina) Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday received the credentials of Luis Mariano Fernández, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Cuba to the Government of this Arab nation.

The ceremony to present credentials was held at the People’s Palace in Damascus, where Al-Assad met with the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission.

The president highlighted the solid and historical relations between the two countries and stressed the need to raise cooperation ties in the economic and cultural fields to an excellent level in the political sphere.

The head of State also rejected the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba and highlighted that nation’s firmness during six decades of US blockade. Al-Assad said Cuba became an example and a source of inspiration and freedom for all peoples globally, particularly in Latin America.

Syria and Cuba established diplomatic relations on August 11, 1965. They are characterized by mutual support for national causes in all international forums.
