Cuban president congratulates new Vietnamese head of state

Hanoi, Mar 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today extended his most sincere congratulations and best wishes for success in the performance of such an important responsibility to the new Vietnamese head of state, Vo Van Thuong.

In his message, released here, Díaz-Canel expressed the fullest conviction that both nations will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all spheres and the exemplary relations between our parties, governments and peoples.

Collaboration and links based, he added, ‘on mutual political trust and permanent exchange on the experiences of each country in the common effort to build socialism’.

The also first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba reminded in his letter, that 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam and the 50th anniversary of the historic visit of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro to the liberated territory.

In this context, the Cuban president reiterated to the new Vietnamese president ‘the will to continue working to preserve the traditional relations of brotherhood and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba’.

Vo Van Thuong was elected today by the National Assembly (Parliament) as the new president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for a term that will run until 2026.
