agricultura-500x342
Havana, Mar 3 (Prensa Latina) Supporting mayors in complying with the Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security Law (SSAN Law) is the objective of the workshops that are taking place in Cuba, the FAO reported on Friday.

These events are being held in three regions of the country from February 20 to March 17 to support the preparation of municipal action plans, the Cuba Office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported.

The meetings aim to promote the transformation of the sustainability category in the strategy of local food systems in Cuba, through the SAEN+C Observatory, for the management of official and complementary public data on population dynamics, health, soil, land tenure , environment, energy, productive ecosystems, among others.

It has technical assistance from FAO in Cuba and the support of projects such as Increasing resilience in agricultural ecosystems in Cuba (IRES), implemented in Cuba with financing from the Green Climate Fund, and Conservation of Biodiversity and Sustainable Agricultural Management (Cobimas), which has the financial support of the Global Environment Facility.

The meetings focus on providing advice on the use that each municipality can make of the SAEN+C Observatory in order to support the work and decision-making of the mayors and their Municipal Commissions.

It is based on the wide availability of data and information that it offers to document and guide the work in each territory.

The training seeks to level the knowledge regarding the access and use of the different services and products of the Observatory, as well as to guide the territories in the interpretation of the different information.

In this regard, training is provided in the use of local food balances and nutritional gaps identified based on the elaboration of public policies, articulation of actors, prioritized food and life programs. The SAEN+C Observatory is a technological platform developed by the University of Pinar del Rio, which supports the different implementation processes of the SSAN Law.

Currently, the Advisory Group of the National Commission for Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security is advising all the commissions in the elaboration of their Municipal Action Plans, which will soon be debated in their Assemblies in April of this year.
