Price gap between Uruguay and Argentina grows

Precios-500x333
Montevideo, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) The difference in prices between Argentina and Uruguay is growing, says a study done by the Economic Observatory of the Catholic University of Uruguay (UCU).

According to the details, the Uruguayan department of Salto is 144 percent more expensive than Concordia, on the other side of the border. The difference is obvious in two countries closely linked by border crossings and economic ties, among other issues.

There are plenty of examples: the prices of gasoline and diesel in Uruguay exceed by far those in neighboring countries. The same happens with energy, as the one produced by Uruguay is the most expensive in the region.

The Argentinian newspaper. Ámbito Financiero, points out that the difference between one side and the other of “Río de la Plata” is 59 percent.

The main reason is the variation in the exchange rate against the dollar, which is on a downward trend in Uruguay, while the opposite happens in Argentina.
