Foreign ministers of Syria and Iran ratify strategic relations

Damascus, Mar 10 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria, Faisal Al-Mekdad, and his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, reaffirmed the strategic nature of relations and continuous coordination at the highest level.

“Our positions towards international affairs and events in the region and the world are identical,” Al-Mekdad said at a joint press conference held at the Syrian Foreign Ministry headquarters.

He considered that the situation in the region cannot return to normality and stability without eradicating terrorism and an end to foreign occupation. “It is not possible to achieve stability while foreign occupation continues, and our priorities will remain focused on the needs for forces from abroad to leave Syria,” the minister stressed.

“A new multipolar world cannot be built without coordinating positions and strengthening relations with the countries that work with us, far from the language of domination, colonialism, authoritarianism and double standards,” he said.

He went on to denounce the coercive measures imposed by the countries that support terrorism, exacerbating the sufferings of the Syrian people by depriving them of food, medicine and the most basic necessities of life. The combination of the blockade and the earthquake have led to a real catastrophe, and the sanctions imposed on Syria, Iran and Russia represents a form of economic terrorism and aggression against humanity, the minister highlighted.

Al-Mekdad hopes Western countries realize that these measures only harm civilians, including children, women, the elderly and the sick.

On the same issue, Abdullahian affirmed Iran’s solidarity with Syria and the continued support against the repercussions of the earthquakes. He regretted the inaction of the United States and Western countries who claim to defend human rights, and by this, demonstrating their double standards.

Iran supports Syria militarily and financially, while deploying advisers and militias who backup the Syrian Armed Forces in its fight against terrorist organizations.
