Mexico must be respected, claims President Obrador

Mexico City, Mar 10 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Friday claimed his country must be respected, in response to U.S. senators who promote the use of military forces in this territory, La Jornada newspaper reported.

During a press conference, López Obrador questioned Republican congressmen Lindsey Graham (South Carolina) and John Kennedy (Louisiana), who called for an invasion to crack down on drug trafficking.

Obrador reiterated that threats and military intervention are not the right way and reaffirmed that Mexico is a free and sovereign nation.

The Mexican President also informed that coming Monday, Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard will meet in Washington with Mexican diplomats in order to inform of actions taken to prevent fentanyl from entering the United States.

In this regard, Obrador said that in five years of government over six tons of fentanyl (6,000 kilograms) have been seized, remarking that each fentanyl kilogram is equivalent to one million doses.
