We are united by strong bonds at the level of parties, governments and peoples based on mutual support, solidarity and respect, Al-Hilal said to the ambassador of the island here Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodriguez during his reception today at the headquarters of this ruling party.

He considered that there is a similarity between Cuba in Latin America and Syria in the Middle East, since both nations defend their sovereignty and constitute an obstacle to the implementation of imperialist projects.

The Al-Baath Undersecretary rejected the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba for more than six decades and assured that Syria is facing a similar siege which he described as inhuman and criminal.

In turn, the ambassador of Cuba highlighted the excellent state of political relations between Damascus and Havana, and expressed the willingness to work to expand them to other sectors of the economy and trade.

He reiterated the island’s rejection to the sanctions imposed to the people of this nation, and its support to a peaceful solution sponsored by the Syrians themselves without any external interference.

He also rejected the illegal presence of U.S. forces in Syrian territory and considered the Israeli attacks against this country as a flagrant violation of international law.

On August 11, 1965, the two countries established diplomatic relations, which are characterized by mutual support for national causes in all international forums.
