Argentina and Ecuador to hold talks to solve diplomatic crisis

Buenos Aires, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) Gabriela Cerruti, spokeswoman of the Presidency, on Thursday assured Argentine and Ecuadorian governments hold talks in order to solve a diplomatic crisis etween the two nations.

On Tuesday, Argentina condemned the expulsion of ambassador to Ecuador Gabriel Fuks and ordered his withdrawal.

We´re surprised and deeply saddened by Ecuador’s call to escalate the existing disagreement regarding Mrs. Maria de los Angeles Duarte´s situation, according to a statement issued by the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

The measure was announced by the Guillermo Lasso administration after former Ecuadorian head of Urban Development and Housing, convicted for alleged corruption and considered a political persecuted, left the diplomatic legation of Argentina in Quito.

On Twitter, Duarte stated she left Ecuador because the Lasso administration turned her into a hostage after denying her a safe-conduct in December 2022 that would allow her safe departure after the asylum approved by Argentina.
