China concerned about the extension of the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Beijing, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) China on Thursday expressed concern that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been prolonged, worsened and may get out of control, and called on the parties to remain calm and resume peace talks soon.

The statement was made by Foreign Minister Qin Gang during a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Chinese minister considered it imperative to return as soon as possible to the negotiating table and seek a political resolution to the crisis, no matter how difficult and challenging it may be.

He called on the international community to support any efforts to end the conflict, and repeated Beijing’s willingness to play a constructive role in the end of hostilities and the transition to peace.

Qin also favored strengthening bilateral ties on the basis of mutual respect, highlighted the progress made over the past 31 years, and emphasized the opportunities opened up for Kiev by China’s plans to become a modern socialist state.

According to the official press release, Kubela described China as an important partner for Ukraine, stressed the weight in the international arena and advocated expanding cooperation to more sectors.

He updated Qin on the latest developments in the crisis and prospects for peace talks, thanked China for its humanitarian assistance and said that its position in favor of a negotiated solution was sincere.
