Peacekeepers urge Lebanon and Israel to exercise restraint

UNIFIL1
Beirut, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) called on Lebanon and Israel to exercise restraint and use coordination mechanisms to avoid misunderstandings and reduce tensions.

The spokesman for the international command in the south of the country, Andrea Tinetti, stated that UNIFIL did not notice any violation of the Blue Line, a border point established between Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories.

The statement was made due to reports of Lebanese infiltration into Israel. Tinetti, noted that the peacekeepers have not reported a crossing of the land border in recent days.

Israeli media revealed on Wednesday, that Tel Aviv suspects the Lebanese Hezbollah movement to be behind a security incident earlier this week in northern occupied Palestine when a citizen crossed the border and detonated an explosive device.

Israel security informed that the initial investigation showed an armed element apparently crossing into Lebanese territory, the Al-Mayadeen pan-Arab channel reported.

Ali Shoeib, correspondent for the Al-Manar local television station, reported on Twitter that Israel continues to build on the border, protected by Merkava tanks and armored vehicles, in preparation for the construction of a cement separation wall.
