Barbados seeks to attract companies dedicated to science development

Bridgetown, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) An initiative for the creation of science parks is being promoted today by the government of Barbados, in order to attract companies dedicated to biotechnology, among other specialties.

Through Export Barbados, the government plans to establish a life sciences park to further market the island as an ideal destination for scientists and professionals from around the world, Nationnews website reports.

Minister of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology Davidson Ishmael, explained during the opening of the third annual Science and Technology Festival at the University of the West Indies, that the park will cover more than 23 acres located at Newton Industrial Estate, Christ Church.

The aim is for the initiative to attract leading biotechnology and high-potential companies focused on life science products and services.

The minister also deferred to a new policy to promote science, technology and innovation.

During fiscal year 2023 to 2024, the services of a consultant will be engaged to develop a science, technology and innovation policy for Barbados, as well as a framework for measuring local research, development and innovation, Ishmael said.
