Despite the gray sky and an insistent drizzle that has been falling on the capital since Sunday, the Team Asere was welcomed by hundreds of students, fans and workers on its way from Terminal 1 at the Jose Marti International Airport to the place where thousands of other compatriots were waiting for them.
From the buses carrying the team, players, led by Armando Johnson perceived the great welcome from their people, who were wearing t-shirts and caps of the national team and Cuban flags. They accompanied the caravan along Havana’s most emblematic avenues.
The Cuban team played against the United States on Sunday in Miami, the United Stated.
They were welcomed by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who said that Cuba was united and will continue to dream to place our sport at the top of world baseball.
‘You made this people happy,’ said the president, adding that ‘the dream has not ended, it started now and you made it come true.’
