Kenyan opposition politician declares weekly war on the government

Nairobi, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) Raila Odinga, failed presidential and Kenyan opposition leader, urged his followers to march every Monday in protest against inflation, which, according to official data, rose up to 9,2%, compared with the same month last year.

The first of these demonstrations took place today in this capital with the result of several arrests, among them, three legislators, according to an early report by Prensa Latina.

Anti-riot police used tear gas and water cannons to stop the demonstrators as was done Before this incident with the caravan of vehicles in which Odinga was being transported.

The opposition march took to the streets in spite of not receiving the official authorization required for this type of manifestation.

“The war has begun, every Monday there will be a strike, there will be a demonstration,” said the leader of the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition, who also claimed that last August’s elections were fraudulent in order to steal his victory over the ruling party.

However, the president of the Independent Electoral Commission and observers from African countries agreed that the electoral consultations took place according to legal requirements.
