Upon receiving the team that participated in the 5th World Baseball Classic (WBC) at the Jose Marti International Airport, the head of State assured that the team will receive huge expressions of affection, admiration and respect from the entire people.

In that regard, he added that the team already achieved something big by being among the four finalists, and that will remain in the history of Cuban sport, which will have this ‘TeamAsere’ as part of the popular feeling.

Diaz-Canel noted that the team had four moments that defined it as a true champion.

First, they worked as a family, with enthusiasm, guts, determination and courage.

Secondly, because they overcame adversity and after two consecutive defeats, they grew and advanced as group winners.

Then, by beating Australia and reaching the semifinals, thus becoming Cuba’s second best performance in the world classics.

The fourth moment, when they play against a powerful rival on Sunday and did it with dignity, amid tremendous hostility that in a vulgar, grotesque and indecent way wanted to overshadow the sporting spectacle, Diaz-Canel added.

The president highlighted how the Cuban team managed to connect 12 hits against the tremendous US pitching, which was played well and without errors until the last moment, regardless of the difference in runs.

‘You made this people happy, here we have been talking about you and the elections that we are going to hold on March 26, where we will also have a victory for the Revolution,’ the president stressed.
