Said Abu Ali, AL undersecretary general for Palestinian and Occupied Arab Territories Affairs, denounced in a statement the recent statements by Israeli Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich.
Abu Ali criticized the official for his ‘disregard for the well-established facts of history and geography.’ Smotrich’s comments reflect the true face of the Israeli Government’s expansionism, as well as its colonial and racist thinking and proposals, he said.
He warned against such ideas because they ‘express extremely dangerous policies and plans, which represent a flagrant threat against security and peace in the region and the world.’
Speaking on Sunday in Paris at a tribute to late Jewish extremist Jacques Kupfer, Smotrich noted that ‘the Palestinian people is an invention that is less than 100 years old.’
We are the owner of this land, the leader of the far-right Religious Zionism party, known for its racist and anti-Arab stances, stressed.
‘Who is the first Palestinian king, what is their currency or their history? There is nothing like that, they are just Arabs who were in the Middle East and arrived in the Land of Israel at the same time as the Jews were emigrating,’ the politician stated when repeating the thesis of the Israeli extreme right, rejected by historians and experts.
Smotrich recently defended the destruction at the end of last month of the Palestinian village of Hawara, which caused a wave of international criticism that forced him to recant and say that his words were misinterpreted.
