Quito, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador is getting ready to assume the pro tempore presidency of the Ibero-American Community between 2023 and 2024, official sources reported.

The appointment, to be attended by President of Ecuador Guillermo Lasso, will be made effective within the framework of the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government that will take place next Friday and Saturday in the Dominican Republic,

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Ecuador will assume this role for the first time and will focus its year in office on the areas of innovation, inclusion and sustainability.

In this context, three strategic axes were proposed: alternative economies for development, food security and climate change, the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry stated.

During March 24th and 25th, the Dominican Republic will host the meeting of leaders of Ibero-American countries in which representatives of the 22 countries of the region will participate to discuss cooperation opportunities.

Ecuadorian diplomats have been participating since Wednesday in the meeting of national coordinators and those responsible for cooperation, preparing the documents of the meeting, among them, the Declaration of Santo Domingo, the Program of Action of the Summit and others.

Ecuador claims to be committed to Ibero-American values related, among others, to development, education, culture, science, technology, and innovation, in its objective to promote comprehensive projects and build more just, equitable, and inclusive societies.
