The Cuban president, in his capacity as candidate for delegate of the National Assembly of People’s Power for this city in the center of the country, toured the facility that provides assistance to 104 patients with severe and profound mental retardation, 81 of them with internal service.
“This center has always been characterized by the quality of its medical services for disabled patients, especially children who have become adults within this place, and they revere it, more than a hospital, as their own home,” he said. the Cuban president accompanied by seven other candidates for deputies to the national Parliament for the same territory.
He described this meeting as moving, which constitutes an important work of the Cuban Revolution with four decades of existence, and was moved by the artistic-cultural exhibition offered to him by hospital patients.
Dr. Pablo Oviedo, director of the center, said the facility honors the memory of the combatant Freddy Maymura, who fell in combat in 1967 in Bolivia as part of the internationalist guerrilla led by Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, and informed that the unit is subject to a process of remodeling.
The President of Cuba previously toured the areas of the Airport-San Miguel community in areas surrounding the Abel Santamaría international air terminal, where he spoke with its inhabitants and was interested, among other things, in the installation of solar panels that will contribute to assure drinking water.
