Upcoming Angola-Brazil talks announced

Upcoming Angola-Brazil talks announced

Luanda, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) Angola and Brazil will hold next April 5, a session of their Joint Commission to deepen diplomatic relations and cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) announced in this capital.

The head of the Angolan diplomacy, Téte António, and his counterpart of the South American country, Mauro Vieira, talked by telephone about the preparations for the meeting to be held in Brasilia, the ministry said in a press release.

According to the source, the two officers talked about political ties and the cultural proximity of both peoples, as well as issues related to Countries of the Community of Portuguese Language and the strengthening of the economic pillar of the organization.

According to Mirex, the Brazilian State wishes to relaunch the strategic partnership with Angola, with investments estimated at 1.7 billion euros, in areas ranging from energy to agribusiness, including pharmaceuticals, construction and tourism.

It is also expected that Brazil’s cooperation will include rice production, associated with an agro-industrial project for rice, corn and beans, by the Ruzene company in partnership with the Angolan company Sílaba.

Another promising area is the development of irrigated plots to fight drought in the southern territory of Cunene, based on the Brazilian experience of irrigation and support for family farming in the valley of São Francisco.

This South American region is located between the states of Minas Gerais, Bahia and Pernambuco, and has become an important producer of fruits and vegetables, the source said.

According to Mirex, bilateral collaboration began in June 1980, with the signing of the Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement, which allowed the establishment of links in defense, health, culture, public administration, professional training, education, environment, sports, statistics and agriculture.
