In a statement, the institution explained that the major pollution factor is the particles from forest fires in the Orinoco, Meta and Antioquia and that due to the action of the winds they reached southwestern Bogota.
According to the District’s air quality stations, the most critical conditions in the city are concentrated in the monitoring centers of Suba, Fontibon, Kennedy, Carvajal-Sevillana, Tunal and Carrera Septima.
With this preventive alert, authorities want citizens to take measures to protect their health, particularly children and the elderly, as they are vulnerable groups in this situation.
At the same time, they informed that they are following up on the concentrations of particulate matter, monitoring the satellite maps of hot spots and the behavior of winds to determine if it is necessary to extend the alert, or if it is possible, on the contrary, to eliminate it.
Meanwhile, the Health Secretariat told people about the area to avoid exposing themselves due to high pollution, and urged to clean the surfaces and floors of houses with damp cloths or rags to prevent dust.
It also recommended avoiding intense exercise or practicing sports outdoors during hours of high vehicular traffic and called to protect the respiratory tract with the use of face masks, among the most significant measures.
