Colombia to extend electricity generation and connectivity

Bogota, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, invited community organizations to participate in a strategy to extend the reach of fiber optic and broadband networks, the government's website reported.

Speaking at the closing of the National Popular Communal Assembly, at the National University of Colombia, in this capital, he called on the Communal Action of Colombia to consolidate a great alliance, together with other popular organizations, in order to build an enormous network of electricity generation in the country targeted in turning users into owners of this public service and to strengthen the peasant ways of food, as well as to advance in the fight against hunger.

He warned that today there are millions of Colombian men and women who can be self-generators of electric energy and contributors in lowering service rates and even selling that energy to the national market.

He explained that he seeks to open the way, not to a world of market regulations made to bring the user of public services to his knees through the bills, but to convert users into owners of the generation of electric energy in Colombia.

The head of State remnded that his government is allocating significant resources to build, improve and enable 30 thousand kilometers of rural roads throughout the country, many of which are in complete abandonment, a strategy that requires the support of Community Actions.

The President indicated that the Community Action Boards can help to expand these connectivity networks, in the countryside and the city, so that children can study and complement their knowledge and, at the same time, facilitate de development of popular organizations in Colombia.

In this sense, the governor sent a message of unity to the Communal

action and the different social organizations, among them the indigenous and Afro-descendant ones.
