University of Havana favors more integration, rector says

Panama, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) The University of Havana (UH) advocates for more integration, its objective is to add and find new alliances, Rector Miriam Nicado asserted in an interview published in La Estrella de Panama newspaper on Monday.

The doctor in mathematical sciences headed a delegation that participated in the 6th International Summer School organized by the University of Panama (UP), where the UH was the guest of honor.

Nicado, who was invested with the title Doctor Honoris Causa at the UP, told the newspaper that the UH, created 295 years ago, has trained tens of thousands of professionals from all over Cuba and the rest of the world.

Today, the university’s curricula cover all areas of knowledge: humanities, economics, biology, exact sciences, it also teaches engineering and the modality of higher university technician. The curricula in Cuba, she added, are state-of-the-art. Their content has an important section that links the student from undergraduate, with workplaces, with organizations and especially those that today demand professionals, she remarked.

There is also a strong link between students and the country’s social programs, she added. and this gradually prepares them so that upon graduation they can exercise their profession with quality.

Nicado pointed out that there is a great responsibility with the graduates in Cuba, since students, when they arei in the second year of their degree, are already offered a job.

In her opinion, all sectors in Cuba have a demand for university graduates, but she considered energy, science, technology, agriculture and services related to the population as the most prioritized.

Regarding the ties between the UH and its Panamanian counterpart, which the UH sponsored in 1935, Nicado explained that in 2022 they revitalized the collaboration agreement and now they are working quickly on postgraduate training.
