Cuba and China discuss expanding cooperation in prioritized sectors (+Photos)

Beijing, Mar 30 (Prensa Latina) Authorities from Cuba and China met here on Thursday to analyze the state of cooperation in fields such as telecommunications, biotechnology and health care, as well as the existing opportunities to further expand them.

These issues were the focus of meetings between Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo and Chinese leaders from those sectors.

During a meeting with Industries and Information Technologies Minister Jin Zhuanglong, the visiting official highlighted the joint projects with that office and how bilateral collaboration has promoted the development of the telecommunications infrastructure in Cuba.

He referred to Cuba’s interest in increasing cooperation in the fields of information technology, communications and manufacturing industrialization.

Perdomo explained Cuba’s digital transformation process and the deployment of digital terrestrial television with Chinese standards, as part of the objectives of the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030.

The Cuban minister also met with International Development Agency President Luo Zhaohui to review projects of interest for both parties.

During talks with Zeng Yixin, vice president of the National Healthcare Commission, Perdomo pointed out that his visit is aimed at implementing the consensus reached by the two countries’ heads of State last November in this field and in biotechnology.

He expressed Cuba’s willingness to evaluate cooperation in other specialties besides ophthalmology, which is already present in China. The minister referred to the work of three joint ventures that manufacture and distribute products created by Cuban scientists, as well as the Pancorona vaccine project.

Perdomo requested support from the Commission to strengthen ties between regulatory agencies from both States, and thanked China for its donations to support the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In another moment of the meeting, he updated Zeng about Cuba’s programs to guarantee citizens’ health care and face the challenges resulting from population aging and low birth rates.

The deputy prime minister noted the success in the creation and administration of Cuba’s homegrown vaccines against Covid-19, despite the limitations imposed by the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States.

With these meetings, Perdomo opened a busy intense that he will complete during his working visit to China to follow up on prioritized projects in those sectors.

He heads a large delegation from Cuba and also plans to meet with representatives of Chinese companies.
