Beijing, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban and Chinese institutions signed an agreement that lays the foundations to open a laboratory in the city of Chengdu (southwest) to research in neurotechnology and bio-engineering, diplomatic sources reported on Thursday.

According to Cuban Ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira, the agreement was penned by the first vice president of BioCubaFarma, Mayda Mauri, and the vice dean of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of Sichuan province, Cheng Luo.

Once created, the new laboratory will join other centers run in China by the two governments and involved in research and development projects in different fields.

The document was inked in the context of the working visit to China by Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo and a high-level delegation over the past week, with the aim of following up on projects in prioritized sectors for both countries.

As part of the program, the Cuban leader met with his Chinese counterpart, Zhang Guoqing; the head of Industries and Information Technologies, Jin Zhuanglong; the president of the International Development Agency, Luo Zhaohui, and Zeng Yixin, vice president of the National Health Commission, among other officials.
