Jose-A.-Miranda-500x333
Havana, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has until today 416 athletes classified for the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games, which will be held in San Salvador from June 23 to July 8, reported authorities in this capital.

In a meeting with journalists, the general director of High Performance of the Cuban Sports Institute, José Antonio Miranda, specified that they belong to 26 disciplines and are still pending completion of skills in athletics, swimming and judo.

The most recent tickets for the regional multi-sport event that emerged in 1926 were obtained by our racketball teams in Guatemala, pointed out the vice president of said organization, Ariel Sainz, referring to very recent reports.

When asked by Prensa Latina, Miranda confirmed the aspiration of the largest of the Antilles, top winner of these events, to participate with some 500 representatives in the Salvadoran capital and Santo Domingo, as a sub-venue for seven sports.

On the other hand, the official reaffirmed that his country does not aspire to reign in these Games, an honor that should correspond to Mexico, a nation with notable advances, he stressed, and without ruling out the push of Colombia.

He also commented that before the start of the competitions, two other analyses will be carried out on Cuban athletes and their possible performances, including medal forecasts.

Regarding the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, from October 20 to November 5 of this year, Miranda commented that the presence of 126 contestants from Cuba is guaranteed, whose delegation for the Pan American Games already has 11 members.

Finally, he recalled that the shooter Leuris Pupo, Olympic champion and runner-up in London 2012 and Tokyo 2021, respectively, is the only Cuban so far with a ticket to the event under the five rings in Paris 2024.
