Former journalist elected to preside Estonian parliament

Tallinn, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) The 49 year-old expert journalist Lauri Jussar leads from today the Riigikogu (parliament) of Estonia, after receiving the support of 59 of the 101 deputies of that organ, highlighted the capital press.

The Estonian president, Alar Karis, said the XV legislature of the Riigikogu begins its work and in the next four years it is expected this parliament should approve decisions in line with these times of change, he said.

Jussar’s candidacy was agreed upon by members of the liberal ruling coalition composed of the Eesti 200 party, the Reforms Party and the Social Democratic Party (PSD), which signed an agreement for the division of ministries in the Government.

Kaja Kalas, whose Reforms Party (center-right) won 31.2 percent of the votes in the March 5 elections, will retain her position as prime minister in the new government.

The reformists were ahead of the far-right EKRE party, which was finally left with 16.1 percent of the popular support, although the polls predicted almost 25 points of support in the elections.

The Center party obtained 15.3 percent of the vote, Eesti 200 13.3 percent, PSD 9.3 percent and Isamaa (conservative) 8.2 percent.
