President of Bolivia urges prioritizing investment laws

La Paz, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) The President of Bolivia, Luis Arce, today demanded from the Plurinational Legislative Assembly (ALP) during an act in Tarija, greater speed in the approval of bills on investment in works for the people.

We ask you to approve the proposals sent because with them we make this type of infrastructure, we do this work for the Bolivian population, because “we work for the Bolivian people,” said Arce.

The president gave a speech regarding the delivery of drinking water systems in the communities of Porcelana and Los Pozos, in Bermejo, department of Tarijeño.

The delivered water systems demanded an investment of 3.7 million bolivianos (about 529,000 dollars) and were planned by the Government as part of the policy of promoting universal access to the vital liquid and counteracting the effects of climate change.

“Little by little we have to overcome the scarcity and lack of water -said the president-, which will become more and more acute in the world. The issue of water is and will be a problem, and our country will not go to the margin of world reality,” he said.

He indicated that for this reason, through the Ministry of Environment and Water, it was decided to invest resources to guarantee access to the liquid, for which the cooperation and understanding of the ALP is expected to approve these investment projects.

The national government also pays attention to irrigation systems with the aim of addressing projects that guarantee the production and food sovereignty of the population. “This is an issue that we had already planned, to increase and encourage production throughout the country, and for this we must generate water and that is why we are building dams, shortcuts to encourage and support agricultural production,” he explained.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, the 2023 General State Budget allocates more than four billion dollars in public investment, both in terms of infrastructure and production, which promote income and jobs. Recently, the Ministry of Development Planning sent to the Legislative Assembly, for its treatment and approval, two public investment projects with external financing of approximately 160 million dollars.

The first refers to financing with 115 million US dollars provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency for “improvement of policies and institutions that allow continuing and strengthening public services in the health sector.”

The second is aimed at the Program for the Construction of Bridges and their Accesses, requiring up to 45 million dollars from the Andean Development Corporation.
