Van Thuong and the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the People’s Revolutionary Party and Head of State of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, confirmed the satisfaction with the good development of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
In the meeting held on Monday, the leaders highlighted the efficiency of collaboration in the fields of defense and security, economic cooperation, the progress of Official Development Assistance projects, and people-to-people exchange, among other aspects.
They also agreed on the advisability of raising the level of economic cooperation in line with the stature of political relations, and of sharing experiences in macroeconomic and anti-corruption management.
The leaders agreed to seek measures targeted at achieving a 10%-15% growth in commercial exchange in 2023. They also pointed out the achievements of multifaceted collaboration after 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations and 45 of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and bilateral cooperation.
Vietnam’s rapid and stable development has become the driving force for Laos in the nation-building and integration processes, Lao National Assembly Speaker Saysomphone Phomvihane said during the meeting.
Vietnam’s willingness to help Laos to successfully carry out important events, including the first Summit of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam scheduled to be held this year, was stressed by the Vietnamese head of state.
Van Thuong was also received by the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Laotian National Construction Front (LCFN), Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, on Monday as part of the program of his official visit, the first he has made outside of Vietnam since assuming the presidency last March.
