Cuba to face difficult trial at Pan-Am cycling championship

Panama, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) Five Cuban cyclists, including four women and one man, are competing until Sunday in the 37th Pan-American Road Cycling Championship in Panama.

According to sources from the Pan-American Cycling Confederation (Copaci), in charge of the championship, among all 320 athletes registered from 31 nations, Aylema Quevedo, Daimelyn Perez (running the time-trial race on Tuesday), Claudia Baro and Evelin Diaz stand out for Cuba.

In the men’s category, Carlos Montes de Oca made his debut on Tuesday in the junior class of the competition, which will grant two places for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 and 38 slots for the Pan-American Games in October in Santiago, Chile.

According to Copaci and Cuban Cycling Federation President Jose Pelaez, cycling is experiencing happy days.

“In Cuba we have to continue to work, but we have young talented blood,” he remarked.

In the opinion of the man who has dedicated 50 years of his life to sports and especially cycling, this Pan-American Championship is another expression of the fulfillment of the 2025 Agenda, which was presented at the last Copaci Congress in San Juan 2022.
