Prime Minister reaffirms cabinet commitment to the people of Cuba

Havana, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero, thanked the trust that Parliament placed in him by ratifying him for a new term of office and reaffirmed his cabinet's commitment to the people.

In his words at the constitutive session of the X Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power, the head of government said there are many challenges faced in recent years, particularly due to the intensification of the US economic blockade, with the purpose of subverting the social order of the island.

Added to this is the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and international conflicts, which aggravate the difficulties facing the country. Despite this context, collective work and learning provide us with better conditions to face new scenarios and find solutions to problems, said Marrero.

The prime minister also pointed out as priorities the government in the street, next to the people, to find viable alternatives from the municipality to the nation, in addition to eliminating the obstacles that prevent progress.

He added that work will be done to establish priorities, to begin with the issues that have the greatest impact on the population, such as the production of food, medicines, the fight against inflation and abusive prices.

He also addressed the need to promote the decentralization of powers, so that true municipal autonomy can take shape.

He also alluded to attention to situations of vulnerability and social programs, as another of the issues to which the new government team will continue attending.

Getting the housing program to move forward, to satisfy one of the greatest demands of citizens, and achieving the restoration and stability of the national energy system are equally challenging along the way.

Marrero exposed other issues such as government lines of action, including the reduction of crimes and social indiscipline, and the permanent response to the proposals of the population, their complaints and requests.

Achieving true development of the new economic actors and their integration into the national system, continuing to create spaces for the participation of young people and the empowerment of women, as well as strengthening collective leadership, are other edges to work on in this new period of mandate, said the prime minister.
