Panamanian Central Workers’ Union urges to march in unity on May 1st

Panama City, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) The National Workers Union of Panama (CNTP) called today to march in unity on May 1st and urged to build a better country.

In the call to commemorate International Labor Day, the CNTP denounced the governments in office and their policies which make livelihood more expensive and affect the welfare of the most vulnerable.

It also rejected the subordination to the U.S. empire and guidelines that go against the people, according to the message.

The union organization warned that the Executive intends to privatize Social Security Fund, the only public institution in charge of the care of retirees and pensioners, and whose image is distorted by the media.

In the document, they also point out historical demands such as access to decent housing and drinking water.

On the other hand, they condemn the presence of transnational corporations in Panama, without the Ministry of Labor enforcing the laws on them, and for which it has the complicit support of the National Assembly (Parliament), under the pretext of encouraging foreign investment, but without collecting taxes paid by the Sovereign when faced with high food prices.

In view of these and other injustices, the CNTP urged its bases and affiliated groups to concentrate on May 1st in the capital’s Belisario Porras Park to denounce all these abuses and to participate in unity in a new demonstration demanding the construction of a better country.
