Cuba´s youth learn about China’s anti-poverty efforts

Lingqiu, China, May 5 (Prensa Latina) Young diplomats and students from Cuba were able to learn in-depth, about China's efforts and progress in the fight against poverty during an exchange seminar organized today by the Central School of the Communist Youth League of the Asian country.

The event, held in Lingqiu County, in the northern province of Shanxi, was attended by members of the Communist Youth Union (UJC) of the Cuban embassy in China, who were able to approach the experiences of the Asian country, towards the elimination of extreme poverty and promote development, especially in rural areas.

During the symposium, representatives of the two nations agreed that the struggle to eradicate poverty, must be a commitment assumed with full responsibility by all States.

Representing Cuba, Mario Alzugaray, deputy head of the Cuban embassy in China stressed that China’s achievements in poverty alleviation ensure the firm will of the Communist Party and the entire Chinese society to maintain unchanged the fulfillment of its strategic goals which have the people at their core.

At the same time, he assured that the Cuban Revolution has its origins precisely in the engagement against poverty and inequality and affirmed that the island has achieved important advances in the welfare of its population, despite being a developing country and the more than six decades of the blockade imposed by the United States.

Meanwhile, Zhou Peng, secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Lingqiu County Committee, said that his country has made efforts to build a social leadership governance, working towards the elimination of poverty. He also presented the efforts that have been made in rural areas to promote development and welfare of all its inhabitants.

As part of this seminar, today the young Cubans visited the Communist Party of China’s base at the Mass Service Center in the city of Yanshan, in Hebei province, where they learned about social work of this site, devoted to offer cultural, educational and recreational services to the residents of the region.

These exchanges are part of the commemorative activities for the anniversaries of the UJC and the Communist Youth League of China, seeking to take the links between the youth organizations of the two nations to higher levels.
