At a press conference, Fayyad announced the signing of contracts for purchasing solar energy electricity from representatives of 11 private sector companies.
The firms are progressing in constructing 11 solar panel plants to generate electricity with a capacity of 15 megawatts per station in order to connect to the State Company’s grid.
Fayyad pointed out the subscription of these purchase agreements complies with the Cabinet Resolution of May 12, 2022, by which the Council of Ministers granted 11 licenses to private sector so as to produce as much as 165 MW of solar energy.
These plants will be a pivotal addition to the energy mix in Lebanon in terms of shifting towards more sustainable and cleaner energy.
These projects will guarantee more hours of power once implemented and will send positive signals from Lebanon to the international community on the use of sustainable energy and fight against climate change.
According to UN entities, the energy sector is one of the most affected by the economic and financial collapse in Lebanon, with barely two hours of daily supply by the state company.
