Rays-Yankees rivals boil over AL East

Washington, May 5 (Prensa Latina) On Friday night, the AL East rival Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees open a three-game series at Tropicana Field. It is their first meeting of the season and the two clubs enter the weekend in very different positions.

Last decade has been quite successful for Rays, which have lately held 1st spot in AL East Division. The Rays began the season with a modern record-tying 13-game winning streak and are now only the third team in the modern era to win 27 of their first 32 games. The Yankees have yet to win more than two games in a row.

Needless to say, this series is far more important to the last-place Yankees. Even though it’s only May, this series might be their last best chance to keep their AL East title hopes alive. They’re in baseball’s toughest division and have already exhausted their margin of error. The Rays could bury the Yankees with a sweep this weekend.

On Thursday, the Rays beat Pittsburgh Pirates (3-2) to underpin what has been their best season start in its history.

In other results, the Washington Nationals beat Chicago Cubs (4-3), Detroit Tigers (2-) vs New York Mets, and the Angels (11-8) over St. Louis Cardinals.

Plus, Baltimore Orioles beat Kansas City Royals (13-10), Minnesota Twins (7-3) over Chicago White, Colorado Rockies (9-6) over Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners beat Oakland Athletics (5-3).

Finally, Atlanta Braves won (6-3) over Miami Marlins and Boston Red Sox (11-5) vs Toronto Blue Jays.
