Cuba’s Olympic champion goes for a medal in the Boxing Championship

Tashkent, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuban two-time Olympic champion Roniel Iglesias will go for a medal in his new division of 67 kilograms, after advancing to the quarterfinals in the World Boxing Championship being held here.

Iglesias, titleholder under the five rings in London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 in 69 kilograms, won by RSC in the third round against Ecuador’s Jhancarlo Anchico, whom he dominated from toe to toe.

Likewise, former world champion Yosvany Veitía, who defeated Turkey’s Enver Muzaffer 5-0 and also secured a place among the top eight in his category, came out on top in 54 during the afternoon-evening.

In the evening, the Cubans added wins by Jorge Cuellar (71 kg) and Arlen Lopez (80 kg).

Cuellar eliminated Ecuador’s Jose Rodriguez 5-2, after the reserve judges gave a favorable verdict to ratify the 3-2 of the five officials initially appointed, and Lopez 5-0 to Hungary’s Pal Kovacs.
