During the launching of this initiative, the day before, in the department of Lempira, the head of state added that the program covers 272 of the 298 municipalities of this Central American nation.
She explained that the children receive their food ration distributed by the World Food Program, with the support of district and school directors, as well as the Ministry of Education and parents’ association.
In his speech, Castro reported that there are more than one million children in the country without schools or teachers; and some 2,500 kilometers of roads are without financing.
In addition, she referred to the payment of bonds and conditional transfers to more than 350 thousand families, located in two thousand and seven villages targeted by the Solidarity Network.
The first woman president of Honduras alluded to the issue of extreme poverty in her country where more than five million people live in this condition, a situation that encourages young people to emigrate due to the lack of opportunities.
