Panama City, May 16 (Prensa Latina) Panama's Electoral Tribunal (TE) will allocate 10 million dollars for the primary elections of the political parties for the 2024 general elections, according to an official report released on Tuesday.

According to a TE press release, political organizations are currently selecting candidates through internal processes that will be held in June and July.

Under the Electoral Code, the norm that regulates next year’s Consultation, the Tribunal will supervise and finance the costs of the internal elections of the parties.

Osman Váldes, director of the Electoral Organization, told reporters that this amount would cover the costs of the primary elections, congresses, executive committees, and other events.

The law establishing the General Budget of the State for the 2023 fiscal year states that the TE has a budget of over 159 million dollars, and 54 million dollars of this amount is only for electoral events.

On May 5, 2024, Panamanians will vote for the new president and vice president of the country, 20 lawmakers to the Central American Parliament, and 71 lawmakers to the National Assembly.
