Cuban musicians condemn harassment of Buena Fe duo in Spain

Havana, May 18 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) on Thursday condemned the harassment of the Buena Fe duo in Spain, and the pressures on the owners of the venues who scheduled its concerts in that country.

At a press conference at the ICM headquarters in Havana, President Indira Farjado warned that such incidents are one of the attempts to block the representatives of national culture and artists residing in Cuba abroad.

Fajardo pointed out that some media reported on Buena Fe’s concert at Madrid’s Galileo Galilei Hall during the group’s European tour.

“It is necessary to note that it was an outstanding concert that lasted two hours, during which there was an act of provocation conceived beforehand that triggered a reaction from the audience who was enjoying the concert,” she explained.

Fajardo added that the incident is a direct aftermath of the defamation campaign, media aggression and demonization of Cuban artists, planned prior to concerts.

“This is evidenced by haters’ posts on social networks who had been inciting to boycott their presentations and to pitch excrement over the artists, she commented.

She stressed that from the band’s own social network profiles a denunciation has been made of the media harassment against the promoters and owners of the concert halls, which led to the suspension of their performances in Salamanca and Zamora.

The ICM president denounced the abuse to which Buena Fe is being subjected to with impunity by provocateurs, whose discourse is disclosed by counterrevolutionary sites and digital media, financed by US federal agencies dedicated to lying about what really happened, she warned.

“All this is the outcome of a hatred speech that must get a response from public opinion. It is a real boycott and a media lynching strategy against Cuban artists who reside in Cuba,” the Cuban musicians’ representative stated.

“We condemn such an attitude against those who have decided to bet on Cuban music,” the official of the Ministry of Culture assured.

She also referred to the pressure on the public and local programmers who, sometimes without having great economic resources, maintain the will and commitment to foster Cuban music abroad.

“This attack cannot remain silent because it is a direct attack on Cuban music,” she said.

Farjado recalled that other artists residing in Cuba have been attacked and damaged with those calls for boycott and lynching in Miami, such as Los Van Van, Haila, Alexander Abreu, Pedrito Calvo, Paulito FG, among others.

Now the cultured and civilized Europe allows these incidents to happen with full impunity. jg/omr/mem/mml
